About me
I am an anthropologically engaged journalist, writer, and occasional translator from Assam. Or better put, I am an "anthropologist by other means", as some preferred to call the late Anthony Bourdain. That is, I am not officially trained in anthropology but I believe anthropological methods are a critical tool for anyone engaged in slow and serious journalism and nuanced public writing. Taking cue from Tim Ingold, I hold anthropology to be a philosophy and methodology that teach us "to study with and learn from people."
Fun fact: In a previous avatar, I used to write poetry in Assamese, my native language, and published some of it. And I used to believe that poetry--imaginative and inventive use of words--had the power to (un)make worlds, if not lifeworlds!
“You can make anything by writing.”
